2 years and counting!

October 20th marked our 2 year anniversary! Phewww we made it, now lets work on another two. Who ever said the first couple of years of marriage was difficult must not have been married to my husband. I don't want to sound snotty, but the last 2 years have been surprisingly easy. But anyway, time really has flown by. Its a scary thought, but I feel like once we have children, the years will fly by even faster! Next thing I know we will be old and gray with 5 kids, grandkids and great grandchildren!!! I know, slow down, but once my mind gets going on these thoughts its a snowball effect!

Anyway, for our anniversary, my sweet mother-in-law paid for us to go down to Zion National Park for the weekend. Hotel, gas and food, all paid for! What a wonderful way to spend an anniversary. Hiking, swimming, warm weather and beautiful scenery. Nico's brother, Luciano, and his family: Nicole, little Luci, and Anni Bear came down as well.

When we arrived on Friday afternoon, Nico and I didn't waste anytime putting on our shoes and jumping on the shuttle to start our adventure. We decided to do the Emerald Pools hike which is about a 2 hour hike. It quickly turned into one of my favorite hikes down in Zions. Its perfect. Not too strenuous, not too long, and the Lower and Upper pools are so cool! We ended up going back on Saturday to do the hike again with the family.

Beautiful waterfall at Lower Emerald Pools

SHARMA!

Also on Saturday we took the long, difficult fifteen min hike up to Weeping Rock. I'm being very sarcastic here. The paper told us that the hike would take about thirty to forty min to complete. It took us nearly ten minutes to get there and 5 min to get back. What a joke. The kids enjoyed it though! The last adventure that Nico and I did was the Court of the Patriarchs.

SHARMA again! All I wanted to do is climb every boulder I saw!

Me and Anni Bear

Overall the trip was perfect. We want to make it a tradition to get there at least 2 times a year! It was really nice to be able to get away for a quick weekend retreat! Thanks to Rosie and Doug we didn't have to worry about our house or our precious little babies. THANKS GUYS!!!
Well, until next time...

Backpacking Trip 2009

Over conference weekend I went on a backpacking trip down in south-eastern Utah for a class trip. To be a little more specific, we went outside of Monticello to a place called Cedar Mesa. And even more specific we were exploring the amazing canyons called Fish Creek and Owl Creek. Aside from being a little disappointed about missing conference, it was such an awesome experience. The last and only time I have ever been backpacking was for my 4th year hike at Girls Camp! All i really got from that trip was the knowledge of my apple allergy and my ability to NOT use the bathroom for 3 days!

This trip was definitely tough, but the good news is that I would totally do it again!! It was 17 miles total which was the perfect length, the weather was a perfect 65-70 degrees and sunny. The only rain we had was on the second night after we turned in for the night and on the last day for about fifteen min. It was absolutely perfect. It sure beat the snowy weather we would have encountered if we had gone up to the High Uintas like we had planned. Southern Utah has some of the best scenery around!

Before this trip I have never been camping without a fire! It was cool to camp for 2 nights and only use headlamps...usually if there is a fire I would stay up way late until the fire went out (which is usually a blast) but without a fire, soon after it got dark, we all went to bed. Having it this way (along with ear plugs and benedryl) allowed me all to get plenty of sleep for the long days we had.

Another really cool thing about these canyons was that they had tons of Indian ruins hidden away under the cliffs.

Anyway, just felt like recording some thoughts I had about this trip. I am super excited to be able to take my little family on adventures like this someday. At least I will be able to use my degree in some way...Until next time.

Good-bye Old Friend!

So I've decided to give in! I've joined the blogging world....Now the only question is, what the heck do I write about? I don't have any kids, except for Duke and Gus and we don't really do too many exciting things! But I guess I will try my hardest to make our lives sound as interesting as I can! Lets see how my blogging skills progress as the days go on.

In August, our best friend Nate moved into our spare room. He is Nico's "little brother" and the daddy to our second dog, Gus. He and his friends decided to move from Utah to Arizona a few months ago so we told him he could live with us for a couple months until it was time to go. Well tomorrow is that day and we really don't want him to leave. At first I was nervous to have someone live with us, but it has been such a wonderful blessing to have him here. He has been a huge help and alot of fun to be around. The boys will definitely miss Uncle Nathan. Although it will be nice to walk around the house in my skivvies again, the house is going to seem so quiet. Which is where my next point is going to come from...

The quiet isn't going to last for long. Nico and I have decided to start trying to have a baby! Super exciting news. The baby is going to be our replacement for Nate. Our insurance was in place and ready to go on October 1st! We feel like its the perfect time for us. I am 6 months away from graduating from UVU with a degree in Recreation management, we have been married for 2 years (next week) and Nico is pursuing some entrepreneurial dreams! We just feel ready. Well, as ready as we can be!

Well now that I'm on a roll this blogging thing doesn't seem too hard! I suppose I will keep this up. Until next time...
